JOB DESCRIPTION:
The company's Space Systems in Fort Wayne, Indiana is an industry leader in the design and production of space-based electro-optical sensors for Weather and Missile Tracking missions.
Seeking a talented, strategic, and transformational person to lead an evolution of the Production Team to improve business planning, capacity and resource management and execution performance.
This leader will be responsible for a team of individuals focused on planning factory and execution activities, setting up and maintaining Operations IT systems and advancing the collection, aggregation, and visualization of production metrics against performance goals.
The candidate will be reporting to the Director of Operations and working within the site Ops leadership team.
This position will transform production management by leading a team through the following activities:
Spearhead the development of the capacity management process, including identification of capacity gaps, to ensure successful execution.
Investigate systems and tools to develop, maintain, and create visual display of metrics that measure manufacturing performance against material plans, kit readiness and cost and schedule goals.
Development and continuous management of site Master Production Schedules.
Perform root cause analysis on missed metrics or process escapes, develop, and implement corrective and preventative actions.
Develop and lead strategic improvement initiatives to optimize flow of material, visual management of factories and improve processing cycle times.
Create strong internal supplier relationships and collaborate to improve delivery of production inputs including Engineering designs, equipment, and materials.
Expand the use ERP/MRP system to drive more automation within the operation and promote measurement / adherence to process time standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Drive a Safety and Quality first culture on the production planning and execution team and across Operations with your peers on the Operations Management Team.
Motivate and develop capability of the production planning team; grow technical skills, as well as project management and facilitation skills.
Lead monthly S&OP process, including scheduling meetings, coordinating content input, and preparing the executive S&OP slide deck.
Provide management oversight and guidance for kit readiness and release, management and tracking of WIP and consumables, resolution of real-time production material defects, and replenishment to factory work cells.
Focuses on constantly improving efficiency of processes utilizing automation and strategies from Lean Manufacturing
Supports bids by providing manpower estimates for the execution of programs.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 9 years of prior related production planning, master scheduling, project management experience,
Or a Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience.
In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior experience n production systems and leading a team.
REQUIREMENTS:
Success and results in driving improvements in cost, quality and efficiency in manufacturing environments.
Experience leading and transforming teams.
Clearance Required Prior to Start – Ability to Obtain.
Clearance Required for Role - Secret.
Preferred Additional Skills:
3+ years' experience with ERP/MRP systems, experience as a ERP/MRP super user preferred.
Experience with MES systems and other Master Production Scheduling tools.
APICS certifications in planning, inventory management, logistics or others.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to quickly identify efficient solutions to problems; the ability to think systemically.
Strong coaching and employee development skills
Knowledge and experience with Lean and 6 Sigma tools such as 5S, value stream mapping, Kaizen, process control, root cause analysis, etc. dedicated to continuous improvement.
Project Management skills and the ability to organize and manage multiple products through manufacturing process simultaneously.
Excellent communication skills; able to communicate effectively with management and personnel at all levels.
