WORK HOURS: ***PLEASE NOTE THIS ROLE REQUIRES CANDIDATES TO ROTATE SHIFTS EVERY 2 WEEKS.
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Data Center Technician to support the operations of our client’s data center.
This role provides on-site support to IT and network infrastructure, performing a range of tasks from equipment installation and maintenance to troubleshooting and physical cabling.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, customer-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-availability environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide on-site technical support for data center hardware including servers, routers, switches, and storage devices.
Assist engineering teams with complex problem determination and resolution
Perform rack and stack activities, including the physical installation of hardware. Apply baseline configurations for new equipment installations.
Conduct basic diagnostics and troubleshooting on network and server equipment.
Replace failed components such as hard drives, memory, and power supplies under supervision or via instructions.
Monitor and report environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, etc.) and escalate any anomalies.
Assist in inventory management, including shipping and receiving of IT equipment. Unpack and perform physical inventory of equipment and materials.Power up equipment under normal power conditions and verify proper power-up
Run, terminate, and connect cable (copper/fiber) including labeling, and documentation to company standards. Verify cable integrity and continuity. Dress and otherwise protect cabling as required.
Maintain compliance with security and access protocols.
Document work performed and update ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira).
Provide support during maintenance windows or emergency outages as needed.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or technical certification is a plus.
5+ years of experience in a data center or similar IT environment.
Strong knowledge of infrastructure devices (Network, Server and SAN)
Strong understanding of data center standards and best practices.
Proficiency with tools and procedures for basic hardware and cabling tasks.
Familiarity with IP networking concepts and structured cabling.
Ability to lift and move equipment (up to 35 lbs).
Excellent communication skills and a professional demeanor.
Ability to work independently or with remote teams under minimal supervision.
Flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or DCIM training.
Experience with ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow).
Familiarity with remote hands protocols in a colocation or managed service environment.
Knowledge of industry standards like TIA/EIA, BICSI, or ITIL.
