OPEN JOB: High-Speed Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) Researcher LOCATION: Santa Clara, California,
***Relocation Assistance Available SALARY: $160,000 to $200,000 INDUSTRY: Semiconductors JOB CATEGORY: Engineering - Electrical About the Job:
As a High-Speed Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) Researcher, you will play a pivotal role in inventing, developing, and validating cutting-edge integrated photonic technologies with frequencies exceeding 100 GHz.
If successful, your efforts will enable new and breakthrough Keysight products and be used by many customers to accelerate their own innovations.
This role requires a strong foundation in both the theoretical principles and practical applications of PICs and mm-Wave technologies.
We're looking for someone who is passionate about innovation, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is eager to drive impactful changes in the photonics field.
Responsibilities:
As a High-Speed PIC Researcher, you will apply your photonic and RF expertise as part of our team to propose, develop, and implement innovative yet practical solutions to technically challenging problems. Your initial work will include theoretical analysis, device simulations, and PIC layout with an eye for packaging and commercialization.
A deep understanding of integrated photonics, electro-optic materials and microwave transmission lines will be needed.
PIC researchers are asked to:
Identify new technologies early and how they can best be harnessed for the firm
Invent new measurement concepts or implementations to significantly impact the firms businesses
Implement these innovative concepts in actual hardware and software to prove feasibility
Work with business to transfer the technology into commercial products.
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. degree in a relevant field (e.g., Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Optics, Physics)
Minimum of 2 years of post-Ph.D. experience
Demonstrated ability to perform innovative research in high-speed integrated photonics
Experience in PIC simulation, design, and layout (e.g., Lumerical, Tidy3D, IPKISS, KLayout, Cadence)
Experience in RF, microwave, or mm-wave simulation and design (e.g., ADS, HFSS, CST)
Hands-on experience with high-speed (>10 GHz) opto-electronics device characterization
Strong written and verbal English communication skills
Self-motivated with an ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with script-based PIC layout
Strong understanding of various electro-optic materials (e.g., lithium niobate, lithium tantalate)
Familiarity with PIC foundry tape-out processes
Photonic or electronic packaging experience
Lab automation with Python – instrument control and data acquisition
