Ideal Candidate Profile
Experienced Electrical Engineer with at least 5+ years in a manufacturing environment, ideally in heavy industrial settings such as extrusion, casting, fabrication, or similar operations.
Strong capital project leader skilled in taking projects from scope definition through installation, startup, and hand‑off, managing project budgets of $1M–$40M.
Expertise in electrical power and controls engineering, especially with:
480VAC systems
PLC, HMI, and SCADA platforms (Rockwell preferred)
Motor control centers (MCCs), VFDs, and industrial automation.
Hands‑on technical ability to troubleshoot, install, and oversee mill‑grade equipment and electrical systems in real manufacturing environments.
Skilled designer with experience creating or supervising electrical designs, equipment specifications, and material/service requirements.
Strong collaborator and communicator, capable of motivating cross‑functional teams, working with contractors, and partnering with plant engineering/maintenance personnel.
Comfortable being on the shop floor, using ladders or high‑reach equipment to evaluate systems, inspect installations, and resolve issues.
Well‑versed in electrical safety standards, including NFPA 70E, NEC, and other relevant codes.
Continuous improvement mindset with the ability to identify, recommend, and implement enhancements to equipment reliability, manufacturing value, and system performance.
Bonus experience in combustion, hydraulics, and pneumatics, adding depth to multi‑discipline engineering support.
Proven problem solver, able to perform engineering calculations, review proposals, manage drawings, and ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.
JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer to lead the safe, timely, and cost-effective execution of capital projects ranging from $1M to $40M in aluminum extrusion, fabrication, and billet casting facilities.
This role is responsible for electrical power and controls engineering, including equipment upgrades, design, material and service specification, and managing installations, startups, and troubleshooting.
The Electrical Engineer will drive projects from scope definition through execution, collaborating with plant teams, contractors, and maintenance personnel to ensure equipment functionality, reliability, and efficiency.
The role also includes recommending improvements to enhance equipment and production system performance. This position reports to Engineering Manager.
What you will be doing
Lead the safe, on-time, and on-budget development and execution of capital projects.
Provide electrical engineering and design from concept through hand-off using the established PESHA process.
Manage contractors to ensure safe and productive execution of work.
Collaborate with internal/external engineering resources, equipment suppliers, and construction contractors.
Perform engineering tasks including problem-solving, design calculations, equipment selection, proposal reviews, and drawing management.
Ensure proper operation and safety of equipment and processes.
Recommend and implement changes to improve manufacturing value and system performance.
Ensure processes are capable, controlled, and meet delivery and cost targets.
Be present on the shop floor as needed, including accessing equipment via ladders or high reaches to evaluate progress and troubleshoot issues.
Required Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field is required.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment as an electrical engineer, with a strong background in capital project lifecycle.
Proven success in electrical power and controls engineering, including equipment specification, installation, and hand-off to operations.
Experience installing mill-grade equipment.
Design or supervisory design experience in electrical systems, primarily 480VAC.
Hands-on experience with PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems (Rockwell preferred).
Demonstrated ability to collaborate and motivate cross-functional teams.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
Experience in combustion, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Background in extrusion, casting, and fabrication operations.
Familiarity with electrical control systems, including motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), and industrial automation.
Knowledge of NFPA 70E, NEC, and other relevant electrical safety standards.
