IDEAL CANDIDATE:
- Registered Nurse (RN) license (Maryland or Compact State)
- Must have clinical nursing experience in Critical Care
- Must have nursing leadership experience (director or manager level), preferably in critical care services (ICU, ICU Step Down, etc.)
- Masters Degree in Nursing
- ****Open to considering a strong ICU RN Manager ready for the next step.
SUMMARY:
- The Exec Director reports to the CNO/VP Patient Care Services for the Hospital
- Oversight of 3 units: ICU, ICU Step Down, and Neuroscience. Each unit has around 30 beds, approx. 95 beds in total, as well as staff of 320 FTEs
- Each unit has a Nurse Manager who reports to this Exec Director. The Nurse Managers have day and night shift Assistant Nurse Managers on the unit. ICU RNs have a 2:1 patient ratio. In addition to the three CC units, this leader is a liaison to Hospice and Dialysis, since many patients transition to Hospice or need Dialysis while in the critical care units
- Interview process will include a virtual 1:1 with the CNO, followed by a full day of onsite panel interviews at the Hospital. Interview panel will include the CNO, other PCS Directors, critical care providers, direct reports (critical care nurse managers), etc.
- The position combines strategic leadership with operational management, focusing on patient outcomes, staff recruitment and retention, regulatory compliance, and efficient resource allocation.
Leadership & Strategic Oversight:
- Lead the development and execution of patient care strategies in alignment with the organization’s mission and overall objectives.
- Develop and implement strategic goals, objectives, and policies to enhance operational efficiency, quality of care, and patient safety across all covered areas.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement across Patient Care Services.
- Work closely with other hospital leadership teams to align patient care services with organizational goals and objectives.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of patient care units, ensuring adherence to best practices, policies, and protocols in collaboration with patient care services nurse leaders.
- Implement and monitor clinical processes to ensure the highest standards of care across all departments.
- Maintain a focus on optimizing operational efficiency, nursing productivity and patient flow.
- Develop and manage initiatives to improve patient care processes, enhance patient outcomes, and reduce variability and costs.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and professional development opportunities to nursing and patient care staff.
- Oversee recruitment, training, and retention strategies to ensure the department is staffed with highly skilled professionals.
- Implement performance appraisals, staff evaluations, and address any performance concerns through a clear and effective process.
- Develop and manage budgets for all patient care departments, ensuring cost-effective use of resources while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Analyze financial reports and make data-driven decisions to improve cost efficiency while adhering to quality standards.
- Optimize resource allocation, ensuring that both staffing levels and material resources are aligned with patient demand and operational needs.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission standards, OSHA, HIPAA, and any applicable local/state/national guidelines.
- Develop and oversee the implementation of quality improvement initiatives and patient safety protocols.
- Regularly assess clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction data, acting as necessary to achieve the organizational goal of zero harm.
- Foster a collaborative environment among clinical, operational, and administrative teams to ensure integrated care delivery.
- Maintain effective communication channels with patients, families, and staff to address concerns, improve patient experiences, and resolve conflicts.
- Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, addressing any operational challenges and facilitating effective problem-solving.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Registered Nurse License - Current Maryland license or eligibility to obtain Maryland license.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive leadership experience, ideally with a focus in critical care services.
- Master's Degree in Nursing REQUIRED; DNP preferred.
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Strong knowledge of processes, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
