  • We are seeking a Systems/Software Engineer to provide technical support for the AFNet program within the Command, Control, Communication, Intelligence and Networks (C3I&N) Directorate at Hanscom AFB. 
  • Serve as the designated technical authority in the disciplined execution of systems engineering and software engineering. 
  • Work with the program management to ensure software development products are integral parts of systems engineering best practices. 
  • Develop new software or modify existing software to fix errors, upgrade interfaces, improve processes, etc.  
  • Support defining, developing, and reviewing of technical requirements, technical issues, including software system design and maintenance. 
  • Consult with engineering staff and management to evaluate software interfaces and develop specifications and performance requirements. 
  • Prepare reports on programming project specifications, activities or status. 
  • Produce technically sound solutions that are aligned to customer needs and direction.  
  • Provide advice and recommendations specific to customer requirements. 
  • Apply higher-level business or technical principles and methods to very difficult technical problems to arrive at automated engineering solution.  
  • Create presentations/solutions and articulates such to senior management and clients. 
  • Review designs for standards compliance, architecture compliance.  
  • Provide support and consultation on new technology related to architecture initiatives. 
  • Develop and/or review PMO Systems Engineering technical documents. 
  • Work with systems engineering and architecture teams to promote system process initiatives, improvements, and compliance. 
  • Collaborate with users, technical staff and management to define business and technical requirements. 
  • Work with Subject Matter Experts and technical support teams in the pursuit of technically excellent solutions. 
  • Act as the functional reviewer for Requirements documents, Acquisition briefings (Program Implementation Plans), and SOO/SOW/PWS documents.
  • 10+ years experience in a software or systems engineering role. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field. 
  • Must be Security+ certified or able to obtain the certification within 12 months of date of hire. 
  • ITIL v3 Foundations certification a plus. 
  • Able to utilize one or more development language: Java, Perl, C++, HTML, etc. 
  • Able to demonstrate high competency in requirements analysis for large scale projects. 
  • Must have strong background and experience defining, developing, implementing, maintaining, and reporting on Risk Management engineering functions. 
  • Knowledge of IT systems and networks desired. 
  • Familiarity with DoD/Federal acquisition processes including applicable regulations and protocols. 
  • Understanding of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) a plus. 
  • Experience with AF communication and IT infrastructure. 
  • Milestone C experience desired. 
  • Understand complex statistical methods such as linear regression and standard deviation to evaluate compliance with reliability numerical requirements. 
  • Experience working in DoD/USAF Acquisition Program Offices desired. 
  • Must be proficient with all Microsoft Office tools and SharePoint. 
  • Must be able to work as part of a team or independently. 
  • Able to work well under tight deadlines and handle multiple assignments. 
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Able to perform work involving the research, definition of scope, and selection of problem investigation for subject areas as directed. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to include the ability to deal with high-ranking military officers and civilians.
