TITLE: Linux Administrator (remote / telecommute)

LOCATION: remote (can be any location)

HOURS WORKED: 8 hours per day, Mon-Fri 9 am - 6 pm. will be working day shift on Central European time (UTC + 1), which will become UTC + 2 on March 31.


SUMMARY:

Primary Technical Accountabilities:
  • Provides primary support through daily operations for the following IT functional areas: Server installation/build automation, patching and configuration.
  • Provides all aspects of Red Hat Linux Server administration for applications in a corporate critical environment.
  • Provide RH Server support for the manufacturing sites.
  • Assist vendors with software installation on Linux Servers.
  • Provides technical expertise in the areas of system design, installation, configuration, tuning, capacity planning, troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • some on call work required
 
General Accountabilities:
  • Responsible for operational execution / maintenance of applications within infrastructure areas.
  • Completes tasks within a defined time frame.
  • Ensure effective problem analysis and resolution in a timely fashion.
  • Escalates issues when needed to appropriate levels of IT / business.
  • Effectively solicits and gathers requirements (user, business process, performance requirements, etc.) from business users using appropriate mechanisms and following company standards.
  • Translates business requirements and designs effective solutions.
  • Develops (configures / programs) and unit tests solutions based on company standards and SOPs.
  • Participates as necessary in the validation matrix role to independently test and validate solutions to ensure fulfillment of all business requirements, compliance of regulations and quality of solutions.
  • Effectively follows global IT procedures and policies are followed consistently as defined by the Quality Management System.
 
Skills required:
The ideal person for this position will be considered expert or knowledgeable in the previously mentioned areas with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, have the ability to provide leadership and mentoring, and work within a collaborative team environment.  Expert or working knowledge in the following areas and technologies:
  • System Security, Unix and Linux Operating Systems, and Unix Scripting.
  • Red Hat Linux, HP-UX, RHN Satellite, Red Hat Kickstart, Ansible, Puppet, GitLab, HP Ignite, LVM, and VMware.
  • Clustering software MC/Service Guard and Red Hat Clustering.
  • Server monitoring tools SolarWinds, Nagios and Cacti.
  • System programming experience with knowledge of Perl, Python, and shell.
  • Strong skills in the areas of communication, problem analysis, delivery on results, self-development, adaptability, flexibility and global perspective. Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Must be knowledgeable with all aspects of Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Strong skills in the areas of requirements gathering and test & validation required.
  • High level of computer literacy with Microsoft Office products (i.e. Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, and Project).
  • Capable of making presentations typically to peers and other technical professionals.
  • Strong English skills both written and spoken are required.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell, sFTP, ADFS, SCCM, and Networking is a plus
