OPEN JOB: SENIOR ACCOUNTANT LOCATION: Matawan, NJ TYPE: Salaried Position with benefits EMPLOYER: LARGE RETAIL CHAIN (Corporate Headquarters) NOTE: Candidate MUST HAVE some experience in their resume with PUBLIC ACCOUNTING, either past positions or current (doesnt matter)
Full responsibility for Corporate Store Accounting and is the primary custodian of the general ledger, maintains and supports trial balance on a fiscal period close basis. Has an intimate knowledge of all general ledger accounts and prepares, posts and reviews journal entries at each period close in accordance with GAAP. Is the accounting department liaison with Payroll/HR.
DESCRIPTION: Corporate Store Accounting/Reporting
Full Responsibility for Corp Store accounting. Works with outside accounting services company (FMS) to complete timely, accurate period closings.
Creates and presents corp. store annual budgets
Prepares and presents executive summary of corporate store results
Finance liaison with PR/HR for all accounting coordination. Monthly JEs, annual 401K plan audit,401K plan match and contributions.
Supervision of 1-3 staff (General Expense, Billing Analyst, Jr Accountant)
Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expense journal entries by compiling and analyzing account information (weekly and period close)
Prepares timely and accurate reconciliations of balance sheet accounts (period end close basis), including recording journal entries when deemed necessary
Maintenance of multiple company Trial Balances and explanation of variances vs. prior period/prior year/quarter/budget.
Calculation/preparation of all accrual journal entries needed for timely (10 day) and accurate close.
Participates in external annual audit. Prepares or reviews required analyses, roll forwards, details as needed and follows up on all external auditor requests.
Develops and documents business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls. Reviews, maintains and updates as needed.
Develops and maintains professional relationships with all Company Departments to ensure that financial impacts of business activities are properly accounted for (recording and reporting).
Coordinate accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the accounting and finance team or with other departments (including maintenance of all promotional events and strategic initiatives)
Prepares/Creates ad-hoc reports to support all business functions and decision making as needed.
Bachelors Degree in Accounting and/or Finance
Minimum of 3 years PUBLIC ACCOUNTING (AUDIT) experience a MUST
Minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in Accounting or Finance
Intimate knowledge of Excel, Word, Power Point; knowledge of SAP (or other ERP package) preferred
Understanding and working knowledge of GAAP
Has a solid understanding and foundation of GAAP and can make recommendations as needed
Is capable of working in a reactionary environment and has the ability to manage several different tasks at the same time.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; presentation skills preferred
Knowledge of profit & loss statement and balance sheet
Well-organized and detail-oriented
Highly accurate and analytical
Must be a team player
Ability to multitask in a high paced and high volume environment
